Abstract : The concentration of trace elements from seawater and similar solutions are described for a number of trace elements. Both organic and inorganic exchangers are used to concentrate trace elements from solutions. The summaries of the methods given here are detailed or scanty accordingly as the original papers were or were not available. Despite the brevity of the presentation of some of the methods, most of such methods are immediately usable. Some concentration methods require no pH adjustment of solutions prior to adsorption and can therefore be used in situ. Others require some solution treatment prior to adsorption and can therefore be applied only in the laboratory. New organic and inorganic exchangers are being constantly developed. A good agent for concentrating Cs from seawater is the inorganic exchanger ammonium molybdophosphate (AMP) which requires little or no solution treatment prior to adsorption.
