Abstract : The canvas type split ridge hatch tent is largely a hand worked product. Synthetic fabrics, modern fabrication techniques and simple functional design afford means of producing medium priced, lightweight hatch tents embodying improved operational performances. Results of field tests on vinyl and neoprene coated nylon fabric hatch tents indicate that a hatch tent of 16 oz. neoprene coated nylon fabric on framework of nylon webbing is the preferable type for shipboard application. The tent is characterized by its low water absorption, light weight, and excellent stowage and repairability qualities. (Author)
