Abstract : The spectrum of sub-ELF emissions in the 2-16 Hz frequency range has been observed over a seven month period extending from January, 1966 to July, 1966. The statistical analysis of the data has shown the following characteristic features: No signals are seen during the day, several discrete frequency emissions are seen during the night, signals displaying a slow frequency drift are seen near sunrise, and a strong decrease of the emissions is observed during magnetic storms. A theoretical model is discussed that is in qualitative agreement with the data obtained. The model is based on the storage of hydromagnetic waves in the waveguide which is formed in the F-region due to the minimum of the phase velocity. (Author)
