Abstract : Nine low-pressure bronze valves and fittings were subjected to hydrostatic pressure to determine the feasibility of increasing the normal operating pressure from 100 psi to 180 psi. If the criterion for approving or rejecting the specimen is based on a test to rupture, with the rupture pressure at least two and one-half times the working pressure, each of the specimens tested is recommended for use at 180-psi pressure except the 8-in. globe valve. The 8-in. globe valve is rejected for service unless closure can be improved to sustain 180-psi pressure under the valve seat without excessive leakage. (Author)
