Abstract : Spectrophotometric observations of the aureola (corona) of the sun were carried out with the aid of a Hilger quartz spectrograph. In order to have absolute standardization of the spectrograms obtained, the center of the sun was photographed in stages with the help of a platinum clearing agent. The purpose of the work was the derivation of formulas for evaluating the brightness of the aureole near the disc, and on the disc of the sun. With the help of this formula, relationship between the brightness of the aureole and angular dispersions at the center of the disc was obtained. Knowing the brightness of the aureole at several points (two are sufficient) near the edge of the disc, it was possible to ascertain the brightness of the aureole on the disc of the sun. The influence of the effect of dispersed light during contrasting observations on the disc of the sun, can be very great, and reaches a maximum during the occurence of solar spots and solar filaments. The aureole near the sun causes a certain lessening of the darkness at the edge of the sun's disc. (Author)
