Abstract : The paper contains the applications of the hydrogen, oxygen and sulphur isotopes to oceanographic research. The isotopic variations of these elements are due chiefly to inorganic and/or organic fractionations. Elements such as lead and strontium are also the products of radioactive decay, therefore, their isotopic composition will be a function of the decay scheme as well as that of their parental abundances. Leads in the sediments of isolated or semi-closed basins have been investigated. Regions selected for this study are the Baltic Sea, the Hudson Bay and three Canadian Shield lakes. (Author)
