Abstract : The thesis is the first in a series of experiments designed to extend work on the Optical Model description of nucleon-nucleus interactions by measuring the polarization, differential cross section and reaction cross section for the proton-oxygen system at the energies of 24.2, 27.6, 30.4, 34.2, 37.1, and 40.0 MeV. These data are combined into an optical model analysis so as to study both the validity of the model in this energy region as well as a detailed study of the behavior of the parameters in the energy regions about the resonances.
