Abstract : The report contains results of some investigations on line transfer problems in multi-level atoms. A discussion is presented of the formulation and methods of solution of the two-level problem. This procedure is generalized to a special case of the three-level atom and, on this basis, a discussion is given of the question of the equality of the depth dependence of source functions in multiplet lines. A discussion of the analogous problem for a four level atom is given. The solution of the transfer equation in the free bound continuum of an atom is considered, and some inherent difficulties in this problem are examined. A discussion is given of the transfer problem related to those found in the case of free bound continuum transfer. In Section VII consideration is given to the question of the degree of frequency coherence to be expected in a scattering process which is completely non-coherent in the frame of the atom. Finally an examination is made of the approximations used in the numerical procedures devised for solution of the transfer equation.
