Abstract : An analysis of the breakpoint conditions necessary to form a constant bandwidth, tuned radio frequency, piecewise logarithmic amplifier is presented. The amplifier uses DC feedback rather than saturation or bias control techniques and the logarithmic transfer function is essentially independent of temperature and transistor parameters. The suitability of the device for pulse operation is considered, along with the effects of low frequency and high frequency modulation, and of operation at frequencies other than resonance. (Author)
