Abstract : A recent theoretical investigation of the inverse diffraction problem, shows that it is possible to measure a 'projected area function'. This function approximates the cross-sectional area of a target as a function of the distance along the line of sight. Given this function for various aspects the geometrical problem of determining the size and shape of the target remains. The geometrical problem is solved here by using a Radon transformation.
