Abstract : The design of a pulse excitation fluorescent lifetime measurement device is presented. An arc lamp developed by D'Alessio et al is the exciter. The fluor response is detected by photomultiplier. The photomultiplier output is displayed on a sampling oscilloscope and recorded in a multichannel analyzer. Computer programs for the computation of fluorescent lifetimes by means of radius of gyration, convolution, and Fourier transform equations are presented. Lifetimes are computed for perylene and rubrene. The values computed are within 15% of those published by Berlman for perylene and within 10% of those published by Strickler for rubrene. (Author)
