Abstract : Customers arrive in a Poisson process at a single-server queuing system and demand a fixed number of phases of service, each phase requiring a negative exponentially distributed time with different parameters. This system is analyzed by considering the bivariate Markov process (Q(t), R(t)) where Q(t) is the queue-length and R(t) the number of residual service phases of the customer at time t. The non-Markovian process (Q(t)) is the marginal of this bivariate process.
