Abstract : The measurement of antenna radiation patterns may be carried out with helicopters. The helicopter, cue to its ability to hover for some time in the air and to move at low velocities, offers a convenient--and in some cases, the only--method for taking antenna radiation patterns. For example, when the locality around the antenna being studied is cut up into several sections, covered with trees and swamps, or when it is necessary to measure the radiation pattern of an antenna on a ship, it is extremely difficult to make the measurements from the ground. Aircraft are unsuitable because of their flying too fast. This article concerns using a helicopter while measuring patterns of cophasal and rhombic antennas. (Author)
