Abstract : The observed latitude dependence of angular velocity in the solar photosphere and the hydrodynamical law of conservation of vorticity are used to develop real solutions for large scale photospheric meridional velocities. Analytically allowed regions for stationary, real velocity fields are obtained in qualitative agreement with the observed latitudinally restricted regions for sunspots. (Author)
