Abstract : The static dielectric constant of liquid water, epsilon-H2O, was measured at 59 temperatures over the range -5.13 to 25.08C. Values of epsilon-H2O were obtained with greater accuracy than has been achieved previously. No abrupt changes occurred in the dielectric constant over the temperature range studied. The results were used in an examination of two well known theories of the molecular structure of water. The experimental results are accurately described by the equation epsilon-H2O = 88.083 - 0.4042T + (0.00092)(T sq), where T is temperature in degrees centigrade. (Author)
