Abstract : The classes of algebraic and rational powerseries on noncommuting variables are introduced as the solutions of certain polynomials systems. These systems can be viewed as contextfree grammars with weighted productions  the weights being taken from a ring. This observation is used to derive basic properties of those classes of powerseries.
