Abstract : A mathematical model was made of a piece of rotating equipment to determine the vibration characteristics of the actual machine and to determine how such vibrations might be controlled, thus leading to quiet operation on shipboard. A 64 KW. Allis-Chalmers motor-generator set, of the type commonly used by the Navy, was selected for developing the mathematical model. Both digital and analog computers were used to study the machine's vibration characteristics and both computers gave substantially the same results. (Author)
