Abstract : The design and construction of a broadband voltage-tunable receiver is discussed. The receiver is designed with a high-dynamic range and extremely low-noise resistive mixer. The possibility of the use of cooled resistive mixers for ultralow-noise, high-dynamic range receiver is discussed and experimental results are presented. An approach to low distortion, low-noise frequency converters is presented. A variable gamma varactor upconverter is evaluated theoretically and experimental results are presented. A method is presented by which it is possible to eliminate or reduce the effects of a large undesired signal whose sidebands partially overlap a smaller desired signal. (Author)
