Abstract : Ions were identified and their concentration was measured for an atmospheric methane-oxygen flame. The ion-electron recombination coefficient was derived: a = 1.9 plus or minus 0.0000001 cu cm/sec. Reaction mechanisms responsible for the ion formation are proposed. The rate constant of the electron-transfer reaction K + H3O (+) to K (+) + H2O + H was evaluated: ke = 4.6 x 10 to the -8th cu cm/sec. The number of ions produced per carbon atom was evaluated for the mentioned flame as a function of the equivalence ratio and of the flame temperature. The accuracy and the measuring range of the apparatus for flash conductimetry was greatly improved. A description is given of these improvements. The determination of electron concentrations from flashconductimetric data is discussed. Ion-electron recombination reactions were studied in explosive methane-oxygen-nitrogen dioxide mixtures. A recombination coefficient of 4,25 x 0.0000001 cu cm/sec is suggested for the recombination of NO(+) with electrons. (Author)
