Abstract : By using a simple steering law, the amount of propellant required to steer to a particular plane in space is derived. A statistical formulation of the required characteristic velocity is presented, based on a prior knowledge of the yaw position and yaw velocity errors. From the numerical results for the typical missions given, it is shown that the required characteristic velocity is usually small. It is thus concluded that only a slight propellant saving would be achieved by using other proposed yaw steering laws. (Author)
