Abstract : As part of a study of nonequilibrium combustion related to rocket propulsion, a general formulation and solution of chemical rate equations was developed. Product composition change with time for arbitrarily selected homogeneous gasphase chemical reactions is calculated. A particular reaction mechanism can be constructed through the selection of elementary reactions. A computer program was developed which translates these elementary reactions into the required reaction rate equations. The solution of these equations for the isothermal case also is described. Additionally, a systematic procedure for the collection, sorting, and use of reaction rate data is presented. (Author)
