Abstract : Laboratory testing and study of radar receivers often require that the incoming signal be subjected to various types and amounts of modulation in order to simulate the conditions under study. One particular problem encountered involved the modulation of an x-band signal in the following manner. (a) Power varies sinusoidally with time; (b) Frequency of modulation to vary from a fraction of a cycle per second up to approximately 100 c.p.s.; (c) Depth of modulation to vary from 0 to 35 db. This problem was solved by the construction of a rotating card-type modulator. The discussion of the theory, construction, and testing of this modulator is contained in this report.
