Abstract : The response of the CTV-2 Mk 11 missile to a moving beam was tested. In this test (CTV-2 Number 92) the beam was fixed in elevation at 8 seconds after firing, but was moved at the fixed rate of 5 mills per second in azimuth throughout the beam riding flight. The results obtained from the boresight camera and telemetering indicate that the test was successful. The missile rode within 1 degree of the beam axis for about 20 seconds. The success of the test may be seen by comparing the elevation (pitch) and traverse (yaw) response of this unit (Number 92) with those of Number 76 and Number 96, the two previously successful beam riders. In general the missile response in yaw seems to resemble the previous flights, while the steady state error after about 20 seconds appears to be less than 0.25 degrees. The pitch recovery appears to be very similar to the previous Mk 11 missiles and indicates a need for more pitch flap trim to compensate for gravity.
