Abstract : The toxicology of alkylhydrazine derivatives has been extensively studied by the Air Force because of the use of these compounds in rocket propulsion systems. The present study deals specifically with the effects of monomethylhydrazine (MMH) upon renal function in dogs. The effects of monomethylhydrazine upon renal excretion of sodium, potassium, and water are those of a weakly diuretic agent. When administered intravenously to dogs, it produces modest increases in ion and water excretion unassociated with concomitant increase of glomerular filtration rate. Selective intrarenal infusion does not produce a significant ipsilateral diuresis. The mechanism responsible for the diuretic action of MMH is not known. (Author)
