Abstract : The equations for the effects on the diffraction pattern of stacking faults on (110) and (321) planes of a b.c.c. structure are derived and compared to previous results for faults on (211) planes. As the anomalous broadening of peaks is essentially the same for all three fault planes for the first three peaks, previous studies of line broadening do not clearly delineate on what plane the faults lie, with the exception of metals for which there are apparently no faults. Problems in analyzing the pattern for these various faults are discussed. The derivations are actually carried out for a CsCl structure to include the effect of antiphase domains produced by slip on the superstructure peaks. Unlike stacking faults, such domain boundaries do not introduce any unusual changes in broadening from peak to peak. Neither faults nor domain boundaries produce any peak shifts in powder patterns.
