Abstract : Topics include: Studies in the role of surface oxide in ethylene oxidation at platinized platinum and the question of reaction orders; examination of the oscillatory effects which are observed in C2H4 oxidation and extensions of these observations to a model system involving formate oxidation where oscillatory behaviour is more controllable and can be studied with greater facility; studies on electrode rotation effects in relation to the role of mass transport in ethylene oxidation and in the model reaction of formate oxidation at Pt and Pd; conclusion of C14 studies (see AD-660 428) by use of acetate labelled at the C1 and C2 positions in relation to adsorption of (a) carboxylate anions, (b) adsorption of CO2 and (c) adsorption of hydrocarbon radical species, viz. the CH3 group in this case; studies on current distribution and metal-solution potential profile at electrodes of significant ohmic resistance in relation to problems of current distribution in high load electrode configurations such as may arise in batteries and fuel cells; high temperature studies on the surface oxidation of Pt electrodes in aq. medium up to 300C at elevated pressures.
