Abstract : Investigations of temperature distribution in the lower atmosphere and exchange measurements by the author have shown that, at heights of several decameters above the surface, convection assumes an important role in the vertical exchange. The author found later that convection does not have the same effect on momentum exchange as it does on heat and particle exchange. An investigation of the height range, in which a uniformity of the vertical exchange coefficients can be relied on appeared necessary because exchange measurements for agro-meteorological investigations are already being established at various places. It was, therefore, necessary to develop an instrument that would measure and record the vertical differences of temperature and wet-bulb temperature. Systematic and nonsystematic distortions of the profiles are examined, checking methods for the existence of boundary layers, and methods for determining the vertical exchange coefficients were tested.
