Abstract : An attempt is made to provide a forecaster arriving at Paine Field with some guidelines for forecasting in an area where only sparse data are available upstream. The report includes enough information to assist forecasters in daily operational forecasting, seminars on seasonal weather, and training for newly assigned forecasters. The first section deals with topics that help create the synoptic conditions experienced in the Pacific Northwest. The second part includes a classification of storm types plus four excellent case studies done at the University of Washington Department of Meteorology and adapted for operational forecasting at this station. They serve as both actual synoptic developments and guidelines for accomplishing other objective case studies. The third part handles all aspects of forecasting at Paine Field and includes a series of objective case studies. Also included in this section are station forecast studies with precise description and judgement on practical forecasting use.
