Abstract : It was found that Cs2UBr6 has vibronic selection rules for the Zeeman effect which are dependent on the direction of the magnetic field. If the magnetic field is directed along the (100) direction of the crystal, distinctive Zeeman patterns result in the vibronic spectrum which, when the space group becomes known, could result in further understanding of the vibronic structure. The oscillator strengths for pure electronic magnetic dipole transitions were measured and compared with calculated values. The expected splitting of electronic levels in Cs2UCl6 was calculated using a small parameterized D3d distortion potential and a least square fit to five experimentally observed splittings. This information has led to a more complete understanding of the electronic spectrum. (Author)
