Abstract : The report examines in detail the weather conditions over Nigeria during five typical positions of the surface discontinuity between Saharan and Atlantic air. The detailed examination is made against a background of the country's general climatology. As a result it is found that the weather zones commonly described in relation to the position of the surface discontinuity can be readily perceived in the details of day to day weather. This demonstrates the general similarity of weather within broad zones at different seasons, and the sharpness of the boundaries separating the zones. By means of a frequency analysis of the positions of the surface discontinuity over a period of five years, the country is divided into four weather regions, the characteristics of which are described together with their relationship to climatic conditions in general.
