Abstract : Although the recent literature has abounded with alternative theories of distribution of income among factors of production, there has been few attempts to develop a theory of distribution of wealth and income among individuals. The purpose of this study is to isolate some of the economic forces which in the long run tend to equalize wealth and some which tend to make it less evenly distributed. In particular, we examine the implications for distribution of alternative assumptions about the form of the consumption function, the heterogeneity of labor skills, inheritance policies, and the response of the reproduction rate to different levels of income.
