Abstract : A concept is presented for an ultraprecise geodetic baseline with an accuracy approaching 1 part in 10 to the 8th power. The method proposed is that of optical interferometry using the long coherence length and precise wavelength characteristics of the stabilized single frequency gas laser. As proposed, the baseline might also serve as a calibration range for distance-measuring equipment and for a very accurate determination of the velocity of light. (Author)
