Abstract : The Bearing Analysis Machine is a tool for the study of bearing-generated vibrations. It is used for Navy quiet bearing inspection and as a research tool. Analysis of two mathematical models determines the theoretical rigid-body, outer-ring response of the test bearing to forcing functions generated by both the machine components and the test bearing. The bearing outer-ring response per pound of forcing function was calculated for a Size 314 bearing under 100-pounds thrust load to illustrate the results for frequencies of 10 to 10,000 hertz. The results indicated greater bearing response to bearing-generated forces than to machine-generated forces. Therefore, for forcing functions of the same order of magnitude, the major contribution to the measured spectrum would result from bearing-generated forces. (Author)
