Abstract : Consideration is given to the characteristics of flow around a blunted flat plate, placed at a small angle of attack to a hypersonic stream of non-viscous ideal gas. The principle of plane cross sections is employed and solution of the problem is reduced to integrating one nonlinear differential equation to determine the position of the shock wave. Equations are derived for the pressure on the surface of an arbitrary body with a blunted leading edge and for the motion of the shock wave. These are then narrowed to the case of a flat blunted plate and an approximate solution is derived for small values of the angle of attack and high Mach numbers of the onrushing flow. Dynamic characteristics (lift coefficient, pressure center location) are determined for a flow around the flat, blunted plate at a small angle of attack and for finite values of Mach number.
