Abstract : In a low pressure arc discharge, simultaneous cathode spots are observed on a cold-cathode, copper plate electrode. These spots circle the plate in the -I X B direction. The number of spots and the patterns of movement change as functions of the pressure and the applied magnetic field. Since multispots exist, corrections are applied to find the effective magnetic field acting on the ith spot. For observed spot sizes and separations, it is found that the self-magnetic field is of the same order of magnitude as the applied field. (Author)
