Abstract : Prior to their entrance into either the Sound School at the Submarine Base, New London, or the Sound School for the Inshore Patrol on the U.S.S. Sylph, candidates for training were given various tests which were chosen as likely measures of the abilities required for successful performance as a sound operator. Records of the grades made by these men during and upon completion of their training in Sound School were obtained from the two schools and with these as a criterion, an analysis of the predictive value of the 'selective' tests was made.
