Abstract : The damped torsional oscillator models of polymer chain dynamics is compared with that of Rouse and Bueche where the basic responding unit is the statistical segment of approximately ten carbon-carbon links. The monomeric torsional oscillator approach appears to correspond better to physical reality for high frequency dielectric and nuclear magnetic resonance relaxations. Effects of coupling of torsional oscillators in not only one but also three dimensional arrays are discussed. Response of three dimensional quasi-lattices such as might occur with organic glasses is predicted to be much sharper than the one dimensional analog. (Author)
