Abstract : This is an expository report consisting of two chapters. Chapter one contains some pertinent background material on Matrix Theory. This includes topics such as the norm of a matrix compatible with the norm of the signal space and other review materials. Chapter two deals with the problem of canonical representation of linear operators in finitedimensional spaces. The Jordon canonical form is discussed in some detail. Several methods for the important problem of the evaluation of a function of a matrix are presented. The method of constituent, the theory of invariant factors, gammamatrix, eigenvalue problems, and Cauchy's integral of a matrix are among the subjects treated here. (Author)
