Abstract : Investigations led to findings of importance which relate to immunity to Schistosoma mansoni and are briefly summarized as follows: (1) Immunization of mice with antigen-antibody complex consisting of eggs with precipitate, caused a rapid adsorption of eggs laid by the existing infection, with pronounced giant cell formation and appearance of eggs with the Hoeppli phenomena. Thus such immunization produced specific changes in the egg and not on the adult worms. (2) Extensive studies using egg, cercariae and adult as antigens revealed the complexity of their antigenic pattern. Antigenic extracts could be coated onto cholesterollecithin particles to be used for flocculation tests. (Author)
