Abstract : The energy of an underwater shock wave stemming from an underwater explosion is solved through consideration of irreversible mechanical dissipation of energy. The dissipation of energy in an underwater shock wave is determined with the aid of the shock adiabatic, discharge isentropes, and the variation of frontal pressure with distance. The total value of irreversible energy loss in a shock wave from an underwater explosion with spherical throw-out of explosive material is given.
