Abstract : The purpose of this work is to determine the pathogenesis of liver-cell cytoplasmic vacuolization induced by electrocution. Five goats (Capra hircus) were electrocuted using tongue and rectal electrodes. Three control goats were sacrificed by an iv injection of pentobarbital. Intracytoplasmic liver-cell vacuoles were found throughout the lobules of the electrocuted goats, whereas no vacuolization occurred in the liver cells of the controls. It is concluded that these vacuoles are pinocytotic in nature as supported by ultrastructural cytochemical localization of magnesium-dependent adenosine triphosphatase activity on the vacuolar membrane of the liver cells.
