Abstract : The main purpose of the research is to develop mathematical methods for the treatment of nonlinear plasma stability problems for finite and infinite electric conductivity and to apply them to problems concerning the energy balance in magnetogasdynamic generators and in a magnetic nozzle. Concerning the magnetic nozzle we have investigated the magnetic boundary layer which is characterized by negligible ordinary viscosity and weak but dominant magnetic viscosity. The coaxial Hall current accelerator has been investigated taking into account ion slip and variable electric conductivity. The stability of an incompressible nondissipative plasma flow with unstable density gradient has been investigated by the help of Laplace transformation. A procedure based on the normal mode analysis has been used to investigate the influence of electric resistivity on the stability behaviour. Furthermore the problem of plasma-wave reflection has been investigated using the Vlasov-Poisson equation. (Author)
