Abstract : The infrared dichroism of oriented dehydrochlorinated polyvinyl chloride is studied as a function of percent elongation values of the orientation function of the polymer, are calculated from dichroism values, and compared with orientation functions obtained from ultraviolet dichroism. It was found that the infrared determined orientation function depends upon the band being studied. This effect is attributed to the dependence of infrared absorption upon chain conformation.
