Abstract : A study to develop installation techniques for improvement of the performance of stainless steel fitting assemblies by local tubing expansion until the tubing became tight in the sleeve. This operation improves stainless steel fitting assemblies as it reduces leakage possibilities between sleeve and tubing. Further, it lowers tightening torque requirements. However in flexure study the results were less favorable. Due to the requirement for using annealed MIL-T-8504 tubing, the sleeve loosened on the tubing during repeated flexing. This caused leakage under the sleeve or tubing rupture at the ring cut. It was recommended that all stainless steel sleeve-tubing assemblies be locally expanded and that efforts be exerted to develop a sleeve for use in stainless steel flareless connectors that permits the use of MIL-T-6845 tubing.
