Abstract : Liquid whole blood in plastic containers shipped overseas was compared to units collected and stored undisturbed. Physical appearance indicated the increase in physical stress. Chemical analysis clearly indicated cellular damage. Thus, the necessary transportation system involved cannot maintain the technically ideal blood bank conditions, but the critical factors remain to be defined. (Author)
