Abstract : Developments in the plastics field were cited as an example of the difficulties fire safety personnel face. The fire and combustion characteristics of plastics vary across the entire spectrum of combustibility, smoke development, and production of noxious fumes. Also, ventilation and air handling systems spread noxious smoke and gases throughout buildings of new design. Total environmental control is a system in building construction that presents many unsolved problems for fire safety. (Author-PL).
