Abstract : Two separate investigations are described. The first involves the measurement of the equivalent widths of lines R(0) to R(15) in the fundamental band of CO at temperatures of 300, 193, 153, and 113 degrees Kelvin. On the basis of the data obtained line strengths and half-widths of self-broadened lines have been determined for each temperature. The line strengths agree with the predictions of Herman and Wallis. At 153 and 113 degrees Kelvin the measured half-widths disagree with predictions based on room-temperature data and on simple kinetic-theory considerations. The second investigation is concerned with total band absorptance of CO and N2O in the temperature range 363 to 198 degrees Kelvin. The results can be used in testing band-model calculations.
