Abstract : In the interest of increased accuracy of the gravimetric survey, the separation in the observed gravity field of small gravitational effects caused by such things as oil and gas deposits, sloping structures, ore bodies, etc. becomes very important. Most methods used to solve the transformation of gravitational field problems make it possible to note more positively, in comparison with visual evaluation, the presence of certain effects in the observed field, but give almost no information on the depth of occurrence of the disturbing masses, their form, etc. The Saksov and Nigard method makes it possible to obtain certain information on the depth to the center of the disturbing masses, but this information is often inadequate. The method which is discussed in this paper is mainly intended for conditions characterized by considerable differentation of density as for the exploration of ore deposits. The method of analytical continuation of the total vertical gravity gradient, down to the lower half-space (the two-dimentional case is being examined) through the disturbing masses with the aid of the mathematical instrument of Fourier series.
