Abstract : The study was initiated to develop an objective method of forecasting IFR morning visibility (less than three miles) occurrences at Selfridge AFB, Michigan. Several weather parameters were examined in a search for possible predictors. Some correlation with the later occurrence of IFR visibility was noted between the following parameters, each recorded three hours before sunrise: temperature-dew point spread, wind speed, visibility, and geostrophic wind direction. Two diagrams are provided which are useful in objectively forecasting morning visibility. (Author)
