Abstract : The decomposition of HCl via the chlorine exchange reaction Cl + HCl = Cl2 + H was studied in the shock tube. The rate constant deduced for this reaction over the temperature range 3500 - 5200K was found to be consistent with the low temperature value of Klein and Wolfsberg. The study also yielded the efficiency of Cl atoms in decomposing Cl2. Compared to Ar, Cl was found to be ten times more efficient. (Author)
